Ingvild Hovland Kaldal
the Chinese whisper (hviskeleken) -
interactive press conference
22-25 februar 2007
Vernissage torsdag 22 februar kl 18-20
The traditional version of Chinese whisper (hviskeleken) is to whisper a sentence to the first person in class, who whispers it to the next person and so on until the last person repeats the message out loud to the rest of the class. Very often the message has changed on it`s way from the first person to the more or less remote recipients. There is also such a risk when we are communicating in a globalized world.
Globalisation changes the way people communicate with each other. We relay on machines and new technology to bring out our messages. Communication has never been more important, and those who don’t participate are left out. This installation is based on the Chinese whisper and it is an interactive art piece that allows people to participate. During the festival visitors of the Blunk Gallery can listen to a recorded track and then try to repeat what they have heard after strongest effort. This will be recorded for the next person to hear, and so on. This is the first time this installation is exhibited and the project will be followed up by the artist on her webpage.Ingvild Kaldal was born in 1985 and grew up in Klæbu, a small community outside of Trondheim. After studying art in Stavanger, Kunstskolen i Rogaland for two years, she moved to Gothenburg were she is now studying at the Valand school of fine arts. This will be her first exhibition in Trondheim.
